Ammonia Safety Related Information

FIRST AID MEASURES
Inhalation:

Toxic by inhalation.
Move victim to open or fresh air.
Call a doctor.

Eye/Skin contact:

If contact with eyes,flush eyes thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes.
If contact with skin, remove contaminated clothing and wash with plenty of water.
Move to doctor.

Ingestion: In case of ingestion, do not induce vomiting. Flush mouth with lot of water.
FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Flammable Class: Ammonia is defined as Non flammable.
Specific Hazards: Exposure to fire may cause containers to explode.
Hazardous Combustion: In case of fire, toxic or corrosive fumes may be produced by thermal decomposition like Nitric oxide.
FIRE EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
Type Extinguishing Media All known extinguisher can be used.
Specific Methods Try to, stop leak. Move away from the leak container and cool it with water from a safe distance.
Special Protective Equipment. Use self contained breathing apparatus 20 to 30 minuts atleast and full body covered chemical protective clothing.
 
ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
     
Personal Protection: Evacuate area immediately and be opposit side of wind direction.
Ensure adequate air ventilation.
If needed use self contained breathing apparatus and chemically protective clothing.
Environmental Precautions: Try to stop release.
Start water sprinkler on leak.
Contaminated Area Clean up Methods: Ventilate area.
Wash contaminated equipment and leak sites with plenty of water, till Ammonical smell remains.
Keep area evacuated and free from ignition sources until any spilled liquid has evaporated.
